What is Tui Na?
Tui na ( pronounced “Tway-na”) is composed of two words. “Tui” meaning to push or stroke, and “Na” meaning to grasp or knead. Tuina originated in china and has influences all forms of massage and manual therapies for the last 3000-5000 years. It can be said that Tuina is the “father” of all manual therapies that have been developed. Referred to as Chinese Medical Massage , Tuina is a medical procedure for treating various diseases, injuries and disorders by manipulating the body and points along the meridians to bring about wellness and health.
How is Tui Na different from other massage modalities?
Tui Na differs from other modalities mainly because of the enormous scope of diseases and disorders it is able to effectively treat. Tui Na uses techniques found in massage therapy, physical therapy, chiropractic, rehabilitation therapy, osteopathy, physiotherapy and sports rehabilitation therapy. If you were to merge all of these together , you would be left with something similar to tuina.
