Now that the gala is past and put to bed, it's time for me to turn my attention back to returning to peak form in my Kung Fu and spiritual training. We have a Kung Fu tournament in late October and we will be training for that. Part of my personal process of training is cross-training. I love it and it allows me to use different parts of my mind and body. It also allows me to gauge how my body is and check my level of athleticism and flexibility.
Today I went to the local park in Penasquitos where I live and run a quick mile before playing a full court basketball game with some high schoolers from Westview. When they were picking teams, I was the first pick to my surprise. I don't think any of them had ever seen me play but I think my body language and confidence probably spoke volumes. The game was fun and everyone played with a lot of energy. For me, I like to test myself in a variety of ways. The biggest test is how flexibly my knees are. Defending laterally is hard for anyone and lately I've regained a lot of my lateral quickness. I also did very well a couple nights ago at 24 Hour Fitness when I played. I also give credit to my Kung Fu training. My conditioning was strong too as I was able to spring on fast breaks and get back on defense with little effort. Just like Kung Fu, I'm learning to save energy and exert bursts of energy where needed. I think the sparring and San Da training we do lends itself well to sports. The biggest test is how fast I recover after playing. Am I sore? Is there pain? I don't feel any of that and much credit goes to the Qi Gong training. At my age I should be slowing down but the Qi Gong has truly slowed down my aging process. Went home to work on our non-profit stuff and ate a great sensible dinner. You can't out train your diet!
Check back tomorrow as I describe our Kung Fu workout. Blessings and thanks!
